The ultimate riders' edition - light, raw and rare

In 2005, quattro GmbH released a particularly sharply honed TT: the Audi TT quattro sport, based on the 225 hp version but with extra character and less weight (- 75 kg). In total, only 1,168 examples were built, most of them with the steering wheel on the right, for the UK market. Only 268 examples rolled off the assembly line with the steering wheel on the left - making it a rarity. Especially in continental Europe. The ultimate rider's edition - light, raw and rare

Today, the quattro sport is mainly found in Germany, France and Spain and, of course, England.

What makes the Quattro Sport so special?

  • Not officially an Audi! Due to its production at quattro GmbH, the official mark on the papers is not Audi, but quattro.
  • There was no predetermined run, but due to disappointing sales, production stuck at 1,168 units - making this version even more exclusive today. Especially the 268 units with a left-hand steering wheel.
  • As standard, the quattro sport was fitted with Recaro sports seats, but those who wanted a bit more comfort could also opt for the regular Leather-Alcantara seats - a concession for comfort to the raw character of this lightweight powerhouse.
  • Different width size of front (8J) and rear (8.5J) rims.
  • Absence of the rear seat to save extra weight.
  • Battery sitting in the boot to optimise weight distribution.

Of course, the perfect quattro sport this time is the one with just the fewest possible options for the lowest weight. The lack of the climatronic, navigation, radio and cruise control is therefore also a plus to keep the weight as low as possible.

In the end, the quattro sport was € 4,900* more expensive than the 225 hp Coupé. But it was actually € 400* cheaper the Coupé 3.2 with DSG. Today, it is by far the most expensive TT on the 2nd hand market. Possibly at least 2x as expensive as a TT 8N Coupé with 225 hp and a lot more expensive than a 3.2 Coupé or Roadster.

We have collected 2 nice photo albums with exterior and interior details of the quattro sport:

The Japanese examples, which were or are regularly brought back to Europe, are a separate story: despite driving on the left in Japan, people there still chose left-hand steering wheels - a deliberate choice to keep the cars as ‘European as possible’ and to show them off to their surroundings. You can recognise them on the 2nd hand market mainly by:

  • The smaller number plate recess behind
  • The standard seats (instead of Recaro's)
  • 9-spoke design 18-inch rims
