Tailormade Audi MK1 Roadster

How the idea began

‘The Tailormade Audi’ project was initiated by Audi Sweden in spring 2004. The idea was to let a team of young designers, selected by a jury consisting of representatives from the fashion, car and media sectors, design their own Audi.

For years, Quattro GmbH, the subsidiary of Audi, has allowed customers to customise their Audi through the exclusive programme direct from factory, using their own choice of colours and materials for the exterior, interior and other details. Also for the Audi TT. This independent design team assignment highlighted precisely this possibility.

Based on the ideas submitted, the jury decided to award the commission to Kristian Stahl (designer MD Stahl bespoke jewellery), Maria Nilsson (fashion designer), Atte Gemzell (fashion designer) and Anna Persson (artist), who worked together on the Discoduva project.

The final result

The result is worth it! The team finally created a TT Roadster in August 2004 that is truly breathtaking. With a Morning Dew paint and an interior in the exact same shade, this car exudes pure elegance. The S line pack, including a large air intake and robust rear spoiler, gives the car its distinctive sporty character.

Special details complete the look. The exclusive gear knob made of white gold, pink tourmaline and diamonds, designed by Kristian Stahl, adds a luxurious touch. The dashboard is embellished with the same gemstones, and an 18K white gold plaque inscribed ‘The Tailormade Audi’ completes the picture. In the end, then, a precious picture.

Not only the car itself, but also the accessories are specially designed. Think of a child seat, first aid cushion, jewellery collection, key ring and a set of mother and baby clothes, all done in silver leather.

The fate of the car

And what happened to this masterful creation? Audi Sweden donated the car to UNICEF, after which it was sold at the 2005 Bukowskis Modern Spring Auction to a collector in Sweden. So far, as far as is known, this creation has not appeared in public after its presentation and auction.
